I've been going there for decades and still enjoy it today. It's a wild creek, expect the unexpected. It is fantastic and I'll go back for as long as I am able to do so. I have not stayed at any of the cabins as we stay in Salem when needed. Not a place for snowflakes or wimps, this is the wild and it is what it is.
This was, by far, the easiest canoe rental I've ever experienced. We pre-paid and, upon arrival, only signed disclaimers and were given general ideas on where we might want to camp. Nice folks, no B.S. We finished our four day float a few hours early and they sent a bus for us early. The bus driver, Paul, was awesome and we laughed all the way home. Not only would we do this again, we'd do it again readily.
Zero stars. The service is terrible with very rude workers who don't know what they are talking about. They sent my group on a trip with zero information about the water being COVERED with trees making it extremely difficult for beginner floaters. There were also a lot of spots that made our boats drag. I slammed into a boulder and got a very nasty bruise on my thigh. Can't imagine what would have happened if that was my head. They lied to us and didn't care about my injury. DO NOT waste your money here.
Such a great place to be. Had so much fun, bus driver back to the main area was so wonderful.
Overall the Akers Ferry was somewhat disappointing. When we made a reservation we asked if leaving at 10 am to go to a longer float would be okay and they said of course. We get a call at 9 am the day of our trip, its them asking why we missed the one and only shuttle to that location at 830. Then when we get there, the bus was about 15 minutes late, though the bus driver was very personable. He agreed to take us to our original planned destination but was suggesting against it because recent flooding had made the route a lot more difficult. The owners were just going to let us go out there with no warning of those issues whatsoever. I'm glad we listened to the bus driver. This probably won't be our first choice if we decide to float there again, there are plenty of other rental places nearby.
