Charlotte, the director, is untrained and does not understand the basic procedures of how a shelter works. Our family has adopted several shelter dogs. Some of us have volunteered and fostered so we are familiar with procedure. When this adoption started going bad our daughter started having all the conversations on speaker and we were all taken aback at just how badly Charlotte handled what was the wrong decision on her part.
Please give a kitty a new home for the holidays.
The kitties at the Brentwood Pet Smart Kitty Room are from DCAWS. All appear to be happy, well loved by the volunteers and healthy. I gave this adorable little boy Sebastian, (age 6 mos.), to my husband as a birthday surprise. Our last kitty passed away in early November. He was THRILLED. Sebastian is VERY snuggly and affectionate and seems to be adapting quickly to his new home - already the King of his domain. I would HIGHLY recommend DCAWS. Their staff and volunteers are wonderful to deal with and the process to adopt is simple.
It is a no kill shelter.
If you are looking to adopt a dog or cat this is a great place. There are lots of wonder animals looking for a forever home.
I am beyond pleased with all of the dealings that I have had with this shelter. The animals are well cared for and I was very impressed with the thoughtfulness and concern that the good people that work there and Charlotte, the director, exhibit for the animal's future welfare and happiness. Have dealt with many other facilities and this one is hands down the best!
Thank you so much DCAWS!
Not the friendliest people
If you fill out an application and your application is approved, you make an appointment to pic up the dog (2 hour drive one way), email and call several times discussing the dog, don't think any of these steps will be taken by Charlotte as an obligation to you. At any other shelter this constitutes a "PENDING ADOPTION" which means the new foster home you just let take him home surrenders him for adoption. Instead on the day to see him my daughter was informed the foster had just let her know they decided to keep the dog. Charlotte admitted she was wrong and takes responsibility for the terrible handling of the situation but made no steps to correct it. All she had to do was tell the foster NO. Adoption papers had not been signed.
Very clean. Friendly staff.
